What is PCMB?

PCMB is available mainly in CBSE schools. It gives students both the full Biology syllabus AND full Maths syllabus simultaneously. This keeps both engineering (JEE) and medicine (NEET) doors open until after Class 12. It is the most demanding Class 11-12 combination — but also the most flexible.

All four sciences — maximum flexibility

Good fit if…

Students who are genuinely strong in both Maths and Biology and haven't yet decided between engineering and medicine. Also suited for students targeting B.Sc Research programmes, IISc/IISER integrated courses, or biomedical engineering.

⚠️

Think carefully if…

Students who are average in either Maths or Biology — PCMB is harder than MPC or BiPC because you study four subjects at full depth. Choosing PCMB just to "keep options open" while struggling with both Maths and Biology leads to poor results in both JEE and NEET.

Things to Know First

💡

PCMB doubles your exam preparation load — JEE and NEET both require 2 years of dedicated work. Most students can realistically target only one seriously.

💡

If you strongly prefer engineering, take MPC. If you strongly prefer medicine, take BiPC. PCMB is only for students who are genuinely undecided AND capable in all four subjects.

💡

IISc Bangalore and the IISERs offer excellent 5-year BS-MS integrated programmes for PCMB students interested in science research.
