What is ITI / Vocational?

ITI programmes are government-certified vocational training courses that produce skilled tradespeople in 1–2 years. Covering trades like Electrician, Fitter, Welder, Mechanic, COPA, Plumber, and more, ITI graduates are among the most reliably employed people in India's manufacturing, infrastructure, and service sectors. A good ITI trade is a genuine career, not a fallback.

1–2 year skill training — job-ready straight after Class 10

Good fit if…

Students who want to start working quickly, who enjoy hands-on practical work, and who are interested in trades like electronics, mechanics, computing, or construction. Also for students from households that need early income but want a recognised qualification and career path.

⚠️

Think carefully if…

Students who are choosing ITI only because they "didn't do well in 10th" — ITI requires genuine interest in the trade. A disinterested student in ITI will struggle to get placed even in a practical skills job.

Things to Know First

💡

Government ITI colleges (State and Central government) have better infrastructure, placements, and NCVT recognition than private ITIs. Always prefer a government ITI.

💡

After ITI, apprenticeship under the NAPS (National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme) gives real industry experience and a stipend while you're learning.

💡

The ITI → Polytechnic → B.Tech lateral entry route lets you go from Class 10 all the way to an engineering degree without ever taking Class 11-12.
